Green Island is considering capping the number of pets residents can keep.
The village of will hold a public hearing Monday night on a proposal to limit residents to three dogs and/or cats per household. Mayor Ellen McNulty-Ryan says it stems from complaints about 10 dogs in one apartment. Some animal lovers are already howling. Brad Shear of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society says the issue isn't the number of animals in a home, but their care. Violators would face a maximum fine of $250. Any animals already licensed in the village would be grandfathered in under the proposal.
