A news assignment like this comes once a year. The opportunity to fly in a replica WWII aircraft that was the star of "The Memphis Belle," that happens once in a lifetime. Lucky for you, that chance is this weekend at the Albany International Airport.
This afternoon was media day at the Million Air hanger as Albany County turned out to welcome The Liberty Foundations 2013 Salute to Veterans. Sure, many of us probably saw the famous Boeing B-17 "(The Movie) Memphis Belle" flying above the Capital Region today. But that was just part of the celebration. Also in attendances was the Albany Patriot Guard, local WWII veterans and their family members.
It's very rare that you can receive a history lesson at 1,500 feet above sea level but this weekend (8/10-11) it's your opportunity to take a tour over the skies of Albany (for a price) or if you prefer, take in the history on the ground. The "Memphis Belle" will be open to the public from 10am to 5pm.
