While it’s not clear if the same suspect or suspects involved in both robberies or if they are unrelated, Amsterdam Police are looking into two robberies over the past two nights.

First, on Monday, December 2, at approximately 7:15 pm, the Amsterdam Police Dept. got a report of a robbery at the Suman Convenient Store in the Riverfront Center in the City of Amsterdam.  The clerk told police that a man entered the store and demanded the money from the register plus a carton of Newport cigarettes. Police say he showed what appeared to be a handgun tucked in his waistband, then took off from the store.

Second, on Tuesday, December 3, around 6:00 pm, Upstate Electronics on Market Street was robbed.  The employee of the store told police that a man came in and demanded money while brandishing a knife, police said in a statement. As the employee was handing over cash, he was cut as the suspect reached for it and they struggled, police said.

The man then took off northbound on Market Street. The employee needed six stitches in his hand at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Police say they have leads and there is surveillance footage from both crimes being reviewed. Amsterdam Police are asking anyone with information about the robberies to contact the Detective Bureau at (518) 842-1100.
