State Police say a man from Croton-on-Hudson was killed in an accident in Putnam Valley Monday night around 6:20 p.m. Witnesses say the man was speeding and driving “erratically” northbound near Peekskill Hollow Road, side-swiped another car before hitting the guardrail and then another car. The driver, Joseph Nagy, 28, was not wearing his seatbelt and thrown from the car, police said.
An open bottle of vodka, marijuana and prescription pills were found in his car and are suspected as contributing factors for the accident, police said in a statement. Nagy was flown by Lifenet Air 2 to Westchester Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 7:35 p.m. Troop K’s Crash Reconstruction Unit was at scene investigating circumstances of the crash. Debris from his vehicle crossed into the southbound lane causing damage to a southbound vehicle.
The Taconic State Parkway was closed both ways near Peekskill Hollow Road until approximately 3:30 a.m. The driver of one of the other vehicles hit by Nagy complained of back pain and was transported to the Putnam Hospital Center for evaluation. Putnam Valley Fire Department and the Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corp. assisted state police at scene.
