Astorino racks up signatures for 'Stop Common Core' party line

Posted August 12th, 2014 @ 4:34pm by 810 & 103.1 WGY

Republican gubernatorial hopeful Rob Astorino is claiming that more than 62,000 voters have signed on to an effort to create a new "Stop Common Core'' ballot line.  He says it will allow voters to voice their concerns about the state's new education standards.

Astorino and attorney general candidate John Cahill filed the petitions with election officials on Tuesday.

Astorino says this will let voters know which candidates oppose the standards.

15,000 valid signatures are required to get the new line added to the fall ballot.

Gov. Cuomo is also collecting signatures for a ballot line dedicated to women's equality.
