Fire and rescue units rushed to the "Honey Dog Farm" on Rodman Road in Hillsdale to save a 73-year old man trapped under a tractor, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. Authorities say it happened Thursday morning around 10:30 a.m.
A hired hand was mowing the property on a Kubota L4310D tractor pulling a Flex Wing Woods mower when Kenneth Rice of Churchtown climbed off the tractor to open a gated field but the tractor began to roll toward him, Sheriff’s investigators said. The front tire of the tractor ran over Rice’s body and he got wedged under the axle of the left side rear cutter deck, which was being used at the time.
Kenneth Rice was flown by helicopter to Albany Medical Center for internal injuries, authorities said. Investigating for the Sheriff’s Department was Capt. John DeRocha, Lt. Wayne Lopez, Sgt. Eli Fieser, Deputy Kelly Briscoe and Deputy Bernard Roberts.
