Two Troy residents are in the Albany County jail on sex-trafficking charges, according to Sheriff Craig Apple. Authorities say they fed a Lewis County woman's heroin habit and prostituted her out of the Super 8 Motel on Central Ave.
“They were selling her for sex and giving her three bags of heroin a day,” said Apple. Detectives also seized 20 bags of heroin and about $1,800 in cash from the motel room.
Elijah Richardson, 19, and Jakia York, 19, both of Troy, are each charged with Sex-Trafficking (Class B Felony), Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance (3rd Degree, Class B Felony), Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance (7th Degree, Class A Misdemeanor) and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana (violation). They were arraigned in the Town of Colonie Court by Judge Peter Crummey and sent to the Albany County jail without bail.
They were arrested on Tuesday, March 4, after a tip on the whereabouts of an endangered 21-year old woman. The victim had told a friend she was being forced into prostitution and the friend contacted the local authorities who then called the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, Apple said.
Sheriff’s Investigators found that the 21-year old was being advertised as an escort on backpage.com so they called to set up a meeting, Apple said. That led them to the Super 8 Motel on Central Ave. to find the victim and she told them where to find two suspects – just a few doors down.
