Columbia Development Co. has announced plans to implode the 11-story Wellington Annex on Thursday, August 21. There are several road closures and parking restrictions in place in Albany, according to police.
Construction crews will be moving into the area around Eagle and Howard to begin work on the $66 million Albany Capital Center. Columbia president Joe Nicolla says their priority is to demolish the building expeditiously, safely, and with minimal disruption to the city. Maryland-based Controlled Demolition will be working the project. That crew has brought down the Kingdome in Seattle and the old JL Hudson Building in Detroit.
