As the focus of the golf world turns to Augusta National Golf Club this week, I had the pleasure to talk with Gil Capps, the author of “The Magnificent Masters: Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller, Tom Weiskopf and the 1975 Cliffhanger at Augusta.”

Capps is an Emmy Award-winning associate producer on NBC Sports golf broadcasts and managing editor at Golf Channel. He has worked in golf media his entire adult life and lives in Winter Park, FL.

In his book, he explores how Jack Nicklaus, in the prime of his career, won his fifth Green Jacket and was in the best golf-fight of his life with two rivals who threatened his place atop the sport – Johnny Miller, who had won 11 times in the previous 15 months, and Tom Weiskopf, who won just one major and was a four-time runner-up at Augusta.

“In that tournament, Jack really re-established his spot at the top of the game when it was under threat by these two folks,” Capps said.
