Governor Cuomo Calls for Cohoes Mayor to Resign

Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a statement Sunday afternoon saying the "frightening" evidence of domestic violence cannot be ignored, and that Cohoes Mayor Shawn Morse must resign.

This comes in the wake of a Times Union report detailing years of abuse against Morse's wife, Brenda, and his teenage daughter. Morse denies the allegations, saying they're based on "mental illness and drug addiction of my wife."

Assemblyman John McDonald of Cohoes is also calling for Morse to step down, saying "the victimization of Mayor Morse, how he's trying to make himself into a victim when in fact his wife and daughter are documented victims...it's quite troubling."

Colonie police are investigating a complaint filed by Brenda Morse regarding an incident at a Wolf Road restaurant, and WNYT is reporting that Morse may turn himself in at some point, possibly Monday.

The chairman of the State Democratic Party, Byron Brown of Buffalo, is also calling for Morse's resignation, saying he's unfit to serve.

Morse has said he will not step down, and calls on Cuomo to leave office because he is, in Morse's words, the most corrupt Governor in America.
