Festival of Nations Today at Empire State Plaza Convention Center

From 11:30 AM TO 5PM today, at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center, the 47th annual Festival of Nations is being held.

The event celebrates the heritage and culture of dozens of nations from around the world.

Nearly 3,000 people from over 20 cultures will be in attendance.

Manoj Ajmera is the longtime festival Chairman.

He tells WGY the festival includes a parade of nations, dancing that will begin around 12:30, and that there will be plenty of parking off-street, and also underneath the Empire Plaza.

"This is the 47th annual Festival of Nations, which has become a tradition for the Capital District, people just come, looking forward to it, and enjoy for the whole day; it's a family affair."

Ajmera adds that the festival can be a history lesson for children and adults, and keep their culture alive by visiting different booths and trying different foods, all while learning about other cultures in the world.

"It's like a small United Nations for the whole day."

Later in the day, the crowning of Miss Festival of Nations will take place.

Price for adults is $5, children ages 3-12  get in for $2, and kids under 3 years old, get in for free.
