The death of a patient at Albany Medical Center's emergency room is being investigated.
The man was restrained and had just been administered medication to calm him, after being transported via ambulance with Albany Police, following an incident near Central Ave and Manning Blvd, where he was reportedly intoxicated and harassing people.
Hospital System Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Dennis McKenna says the patient continued to be aggressive and belligerent.
Steve Smith of the Albany Police Department says they were not present when the death occurred.
Hospital officials say efforts to revive the patient began as soon as it was determined the patient stopped breathing and had no pulse.
Individuals involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave while the hospital and Albany Police investigate.
The identity of the patient has not been released and cause of death has not been determined.
An autopsy and toxicology test will be performed.
