“Toxic” Is Oxford Dictionary’s Word Of The Year

Oxford Dictionary has picked the perfect 2018 Word of the Year. It’s Toxic.

The British publisher around for over 150 years, chose its annual list of words that were the rage this year. Toxic, defined as “poisonous,” was used "this year more than ever, people have been using 'toxic' to describe a vast array of things, situations, concerns and events" according to the company.

Words that made the short list (some of which are UK specific) of consideration were:

  • Cakeism
  • Gammon
  • Gaslighting
  • Incel
  • Orbiting
  • Overtourism
  • Techlash
