New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is vowing to overhaul the MTA and legalize recreational marijuana for adults while promising to keep opposing President Trump's agenda in 2019. The governor laid out his plans for the first 100 days of the coming year and touted past achievements of his administration. A large portion of his comments directed criticism at President Trump, blasting him for not investing in New York infrastructure and accusing him of advancing hateful and racist rhetoric.
Cuomo detailed upwards of 20 policies he plans to pursue in the first few months of 2019, including an expansion of gun control, women's rights, and protections for the LGBTQ community. The governor says that the MTA has allowed for politicians to escape accountability concerning transit, noting that when everyone is in charge, no one is in charge. He says he'll change the agency's culture.
Cuomo repeatedly invoked the memory of former New York Governor and later President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a noted big-government progressive.
