Just a short time after giving advice to a teammate to not throw his helmet, Yankees' player Brett Gardner threw his helmet and required stitches.
Gardner became frustrated in the sixth inning at the Progressive Field when he hit a ball to the right-field wall. He retreated to the dugout where he threw his helmet into the wall. It then bounced and hit him on the lip resulting in 6 stitches.
The Yankees lost 8-4 against the Indians.
