Nearly a year after 20 people died in Schoharie in a tragic limousine crash, the National Transportation Safety Board has just released their full report on the accident.
The NTSB is calling for new national requirements for seating and seat belts on all limos. They're recommending lap/shoulder belts for all passenger positions on new vehicles and for existing limos to be outfitted with them.
None of the passengers in the Schoharie crash were wearing seat belts. The NTSB wrote, "Despite the severe damage to the vehicle’s front end and intrusion into the passenger compartment, the rear portion of the limousine remained relatively intact, retaining survival space."
More of the recommendations can be found here.
The deadly crash occurred at the intersection of Routes 30 and 30A on October 6, 2018 in front of the Apple Barrel Store and Cafe.

New York Senator Chuck Schumer released a statement Wednesday morning, saying in part, "The NTSB’s new safety recommendations have shown us that we can, and absolutely must, do more to close the fatal gaps in limo-safety standards that contributed decisively to this tragedy."
