Former Cohoes Mayor Shawn Morse Sentenced to Probation

A former local mayor who admits he misused campaign funds has been spared serving any time behind bars. Shawn Morse of Cohoes was sentenced to two years probation, must forfeit $12,000, and must pay a $3,000 fine for taking roughly $12,000 in campaign contributions for a family trip and other personal expenses. In court Wednesday, Morse apologized but asked for leniency based on his record of service to Cohoes. Before being elected to mayor, Morse had served for many years as a member of the fire department.

At an earlier sentencing, Morse's campaign treasurer, Ralph Signoracci, received a 1-year probation sentence for his role in the scheme.
