Overnight, 16 additional people have tested positive for the coronavirus statewide, according to Governor Cuomo. At a press conference this morning, the Governor confirmed there are now 105 cases in the state, most in Westchester County and New York City. There are no new cases at this time in the Capital Region, but he did mention 1 new case in Ulster County. The Governor slammed the CDC for what he called a slow response to the spread of the virus in the United States. He made a public plea to the CDC to authorize more state and private labs to conduct testing as well as implement automated testing. With those authorizations, the Governor says the state would be able to increase to between 1 and 2 thousand tests per day.
The Governor also reiterating that the facts about coronavirus do not warrant the current frenzy. While most people who test positive will feel ill for a few days, they are expected to recover. He stresses that getting more testing will insure those people can be isolated and not further spread the virus. By doing that he say those most vulnerable to the virus, which includes the elderly and those with compromised immune systems, can be better protected.
