The testing started on Sunday and it could be concluded in the next day or so as 3,000 New Yorkers will be tested for Coronavirus antibodies from across the state. Brad Hutton is the Deputy Commissioner of Public Health for the State Department of Health tells WGY News that the test consists of a finger prick that draws a little blood that goes on a card. Once the blood has dried it will identify if the person has an antibody that would suggest that they were previously infected three or more weeks ago with the COVID-19 virus.
All 3,000 of the samples will be shipped to Wadsworth Lab in Albany with results coming in by the end of the week, which is when a report will be issued.
Hutton says they have been going to grocery stores like Price Chopper in our area and Wegman's in Central New York to randomly test people.
Governor Cuomo has said that the results will be used to develop a plan to reopen the state economy.
