The city of Troy is getting ready for Sunday's 2 o'clock "Rally for Black Lives" at Riverfront Park.
Starting on Saturday afternoon, 6th Avenue between Congress Street and Broadway, and State Street between 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue will be closed through Sunday evening.
CDTA will also be rerouting several bus lines operating in downtown Troy on Sunday starting at 11. A full list of reroute detours is available here.
According to a statement from the city, Troy Police, The Department of General Services, and City officials are assisting and implementing precautionary measures to ensure the safety of participants, local businesses and pedestrians.
Rally participants are reminded that they should wear a mask and practice social distancing when possible to reduce the potential spread of Coronavirus.
The rally is part of an outpouring of largely peaceful protests that have arisen following the death of George Floyd who was killed while in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25th. Four Minneapolis police officers are facing murder or related charges in Floyd's death.
Separate from the peaceful protests, violent riots at night have erupted in cities across the country, including Albany.
