Governor Cuomo is urging wealthy New Yorkers to return to New York City from their second homes in the Hamptons.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he says the wealthy are staying away and therefore not paying city taxes. Cuomo adds the state's wealthiest pick up roughly 50% of the state's tax burden, which would help offset New York's growing coronavirus-related revenue shortfall.
The governor's plea comes as local and state governments might not get the financial aid necessary in the next COVID-19 federal relief package.
