State of Emergency Declared in Washington County

Lots of clean up is still ahead in areas of Washington County after Monday storms bring significant amounts of rain to Whitehall, where a state of emergency has been declared. As of 5am Tuesday morning, there have been more than 80 storm related incidents reported to the Washington County Department of Public Safety.

According to the department, one person had to be evacuated by emergency personnel from a Broadway building which was surrounded by significant fast moving water and flooding rapidly on the interior of the building. At the height of the storm, a tree was knocked to the ground, causing a water main to break. The main has been repaired but the Village of Whitehall water system remains under a boil water advisory until further notice.

The Whitehall Municipal Center experienced flooding, with 2 to 4 inches of standing water throughout the facility. Services located in that building are currently closed to the public.
