Columbia County may be the first local county to fine people for not wearing masks.
COVID clusters are continuing to pop up in the county, with the latest spikes infecting 45 out of 73 people at the Ghent Assisted Living Facility, several corrections officers and infections have forced the Ichabod Crane School District to switch to remote learning. Public Health Director Jack Mabb says they may have to take action if businesses aren’t enforcing the mask mandate and large gatherings continue to take place. The overall community spread is still low, and businesses will still receive a warning prior to a fine.
