New Study Shows COVID-19 is More Deadly Than the Flu

A new study says coronavirus is far more deadly than the flu with nearly 2 million infections in New York in the spring.

Scientists at Mt. Sinai's Icahn School of Medicine are now reporting that during the spring at least 1.7 million New Yorkers, around 22% of the city, were infected with COVID-19. The report says the fatality rate is about .97%, which is approximately ten times more deadly than the flu. Many infections had not initially been tied to COVID-19 because individuals were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms. However, this study discovered previously unknown COVID-19 antibodies in plasma samples from over 10,000 hospitalized patients between February and July.
