A judge has ordered the New York State Department of Health to turn over data on the number of people who died in nursing homes due to COVID-19.
The Empire Center for Public Policy requested the information months ago, but the DOH said it couldn't be released because it was under review. Attorney General Letitia James' office put out a report last week showing nursing home deaths due to the virus were undercounted by up to 50%. The health department has since confirmed those findings.
