Democrats in New York's state assembly are setting up a committee to start an impeachment investigation of Governor Andrew Cuomo. There are now six women who accuse Cuomo of sexual harassment.

In Albany, 42 of 63 state senators are now calling for Cuomo to step down, along with dozens of assembly members.

Meantime, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie says the committee will have subpoena power, conduct interviews and review documents. It will then will decide whether impeachment should be voted on.

In a joint letter, lawmakers made up of both State Senators and members of the Assembly say Cuomo has lost the confidence of the public and the legislature. This follows a growing number of women who say Governor Cuomo sexually harassed them in some fashion, including the latest accuser, who alleges he groped her at the Governor's Mansion. Cuomo has repeatedly said he won't resign, and he has expressed confidence in the Attorney General's independent investigation, adding it will produce the facts.

Cuomo also faces increased scrutiny over how coronavirus was handled in nursing homes. Amid the latest controversy surrounding allegations of sexual misconduct, some say the Cuomo Administration under-reported the number of COVID-19 related deaths in nursing homes. Both Cuomo and Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker deny that, saying deaths that occurred in hospitals were always put into their own category.
