The highest-ranking member of the New York State Assembly has tested positive for the coronavirus.
Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie announced Tuesday he's experiencing very mild symptoms and that he got infected despite receiving his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Heastie says he's still planning to work with both fellow lawmakers and Governor Cuomo on the state budget. The deadline for an agreement to be reached on time is April 1st. Assemblyman Ron Kim has also announced he has coronavirus. Kim says he is in quarantine and has cancelled in person meetings for the next 10 days.
