Colonie Police are investigating after two people were found dead in a home on Boght Road Saturday morning.
Police say they were called to the home for a welfare check, and found two people, both in their 50s, dead from gunshot wounds.
Police say one of the victim's wounds appear to be self inflicted.
(4/12/21) Statement from Colonie Police
After an investigation, it was determined that the male resident of the home shot and killed his wife with a 22 caliber rifle. He then took his own life with a shotgun. This took place in the early afternoon of Friday, April 9th.The scene was discovered after a family member had trouble getting in touch with one of the victims, and the police were requested to check the residence and check their welfare. No one else lived with the victims.
The victims are as follows:
Dorota Kokoszko, 54 years old (wife) - Employed as a respiratory therapist at Ellis Hospital
Marek Kokoszko, 57 years old (husband) - Self employed as a mason
Neither party had any criminal history. The Colonie Police Department had been called to their residence once in 2016 for a domestic incident between them, which was minor in nature and no charges were filed.
At this time, the firearms used in this incident, as well as others recovered in the home, appear to be legally owned by Marek.
