Students and staff at schools across New York State will still have to wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The state Education Department says despite a letter from state Health Commissioner Doctor Howard Zucker saying the state intended to waive the mandate Monday, it'll stay in place. Officials say Zucker's letter was actually requesting guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding mask-wearing policies at both schools and summer camps. Since the CDC hasn't responded to the letter, no changes to the current guidelines are being made yet.
