Investigators Identify Cause of Fire That Destroyed Watervliet Buildings

Investigators have identified the cause of a fire in Watervliet that destroyed three buildings.

They say someone accidentally tossed a burning cigarette onto a pet bed Monday, sparking flames that spread quickly. Three row houses ended up being engulfed in fire and smoke that could be seen from several miles away. Two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion while one resident suffered smoke inhalation. Due to the extensive damage, all three buildings will be torn down in the coming days.
