Some Democratic state lawmakers are calling on President Biden and Governor Cuomo to declare a state of emergency both nationally and in New York State due to the overdose epidemic.
The request comes days after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released data showing overdose deaths increased by over 30-percent in New York between 2019 and 2020. Lawmakers say it's the responsibility of both the state and federal government to do all they can to save lives. New Yorkers currently struggling with addiction can get help 24-hours a day, seven days a week by calling 1-877-8-HOPENY.
