A Supreme Court ruling will allow some New York evictions to resume ahead of schedule.
The decision came Thursday, declaring renters could no longer avoid eviction by simply submitting a form declaring pandemic hardship. The state's eviction moratorium is set to expire at the end of the month anyway, but some evictions may now come sooner. Meantime, a separate mandate is in place to protect renters who can prove to a court they've suffered because of the pandemic. Attorney Randy Mastro told the New York Post the decision is a victory for small landlords who were denied access to their properties and unable to collect rent for 17 months.
