One of the highest ranking Democrats in New York State says he has no interest in running for governor next year.
During a visit to the New York State Fair in Syracuse on Wednesday, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie was asked if he'd challenge Governor Hochul in 2022 but he replied quote "absolutely not." Heastie also said it's too soon to tell if the Legislature will need to return to Albany to grant Governor Hochul the authority to put mask rules in place at schools to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Heastie says he takes the issue seriously due to the fact that he contracted the illness earlier this year.
