Republicans Continue to Push For Change to State's Bail Reform Laws

Republicans are continuing their push to make significant changes to the state's bail reform laws.

On Thursday, Long Island Congressman Lee Zeldin, who is the party's presumptive nominee for governor, was joined by other high-ranking members of the GOP in Albany to call for the state's cashless bail system to be repealed. Governor Hochul said earlier this week she'd like to make more crimes bail-eligible and also give judges the power to set more restrictive pretrial conditions. But fellow Democrats, including State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, say they're opposed to the governor's plan.
