Lawmakers, Law Enforcement Officials Pushing For Bail Reform Changes

Republican lawmakers in the state Assembly and Senate are teaming up with local law enforcement officials in pushing for changes to the state's bail reform laws.

They held a news conference in Albany Monday, claiming legislation that was passed years ago has caused a big increase in violent crime statewide. They're calling for a few of those policies to be rolled back including a repeal of cashless bail. Governor Hochul has laid out her own proposals which call for more crimes to be made bail-eligible and for judges to have the power to set more restrictive pretrial conditions. But those ideas have been criticized by both Democrats and Republicans.
