Rollout of Program to Help People Eliminate Utility Bills Begins Monday

The rollout of what Governor Hochul is calling the largest low-income utility financial assistance program in state history is going to begin Monday.

The governor says that a one-time-credit is going to be provided to help people who are enrolled in the Energy Affordability Program eliminate unpaid utility bills that have accrued through May 1st of this year. More than 327,000 households are expected to benefit from this program. Many customers have had trouble paying their bills since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the governor believes no one should have their utility service shut off due to financial problems caused by the health crisis.
