The start of a new school year is coming up soon and the New York Association for Pupil Transportation is making a very important request of drivers.
The agency is asking people not to pass stopped school buses that are displaying flashing red lights because not only is doing so illegal, it also puts the health of students at risk. Penalties for first-time offenders include a fine of up to $400, 5 points on their license and the possibility of 30 days in jail. Repeat offenders face larger financial penalties, longer jail terms, and the revocation of their driver's license.
