Governor Hochul has signed off on new legislation that is aimed at preventing hate crimes and promoting diversity.
Her action comes just days after two men were arrested for making threats against New York's Jewish community and a deadly mass shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado. One measure requires people convicted of a hate crime to undergo mandatory training in hate crime prevention and education as part of their sentence. The second piece of legislation establishes a statewide campaign to promote inclusion, tolerance, understanding, and diversity.
