The Schenectady Fire Department is taking action to address its current staffing shortage.
Officials are looking for people to take a civil service exam that's being offered on February 11th and has a sign-up deadline of December 27th. Right now, there are 106 firefighters who are prepared to respond to emergencies which means that there are 13 positions that need to be filled. Of the 36 candidates who took the civil service exam last year, seven of them ended up being hired.
