Stories of Transportation Security Administration officers finding undeclared weapons in luggage aren’t rare, but the weapon found by officers at a Texas airport on Monday is. An undeclared 84 mm caliber weapon was found in checked luggage, and the owner was found and taken to an office for questioning.
The owner told them that the demilitarized 84MM Carl-Gustaf M4 recoilless rifle was going to be an exhibit and demo item at the SHOT show in Las Vegas. He had the paperwork to prove it was demilitarized, and a TSA Explosives Specialist confirmed it couldn’t be fired, but they still wouldn’t allow it on the plane.
