Theft and Fight at Crossgates Mall Leads to Child Endangerment Charges

A 22-year-old Albany woman faces several charges, including endangering the welfare of a child, when she handed her baby to another woman at Crossgates Mall.

Guilderland Police responding to reports of a fight at Crossgates Mall say they found out, through questioning, that Ajanice Spooner had been in Lord and Taylor, and that she had stolen merchandise.

Authorities add that Spooner pushed some of the personnel, causing minor injuries, and held her child in front of her to prevent her from being handcuffed.

Police say she then went to Forever 21, and told a group of females to begin a fight with Lord and Taylor loss prevention personnel.

Spooner then gave her 10-month-old child to another woman, and fled the mall.

She returned a few hours later to give herself up.

It was later discovered that Spooner had been banned from the mall since 2011.

The child has been given to his grandfather.
