The second time around has been very fulfilling for Jim Gagliardi. Jim was rehired in January 2011 and has been important part of an expanded WGY Newsroom that provides news for the Capital region and selected cities in New England and New York. Jim has anchored newscasts and covered stories in the field for WGY. Jim has also anchored primary night coverage of elections as well. The State Legislature has also been part of Jim’s “beat” as well.
In May of 2013, Gagliardi anchored critical live coverage when a tornado caused extensive damage from Montgomery County to Schenectady County. And Jim was part of WGY’S Award winning coverage from Tropical Storm Irene from 2011, anchoring overnight newscasts.
On a personal note, Jim’s interview with Justin Hayward, lead guitarist and lead singer for the Legendary Moody Blues went viral. The interview went on Hayward’s web site along with WGY Unfiltered. The interview got thousands of page views on both web sites.
This second Stint at WGY Follows Jim’s first period at WGY, from March 1994 to November 2006. During that time Jim won numerous Associated Press awards, A New York State Broadcasters award, and a national Edward R. Murrow award for coverage of the deadly 1999 E. Coli outbreak at the Washington County Fair. Jim also was called on by ABC News to provide live reports on the 2003 Northeast Blackout, and trainer Kevin Rooney’s lawsuit against boxer Mike Tyson.
Before Jim’s two terms at WGY, he was at WROW, where he worked for 24 years, the last 8 years as Program Director. He was recognized by the American Hockey League for radio coverage of the Adirondack Red Wings and he picked up another New York State Broadcaster’s award.
Jim graduated from the old Draper High School in Rotterdam, and then went to Grahm Junior College in Boston, where he graduated with a degree in Communications.
