Fewer Arriving Airport Passengers Are Hailing a Cab

A new report from the Albany Airport Authority says fewer people are utilizing taxi service to take them to their destination after their plane lands in Albany.

The report says Lyft, in its first six months, provided more than 19,000 rides from the airport.  At the same time, Capitaland Taxi saw its airport business drop more than 11%.

Company owner Bret Peek says Capitaland is "holding its own," and says he recently replaced his fleet of taxis with new vehicles.

Capitaland has the exclusive taxi contract to pick up arriving passengers, while Lyft has the ride-hailing agreement for passenger pickup.

While Uber, and other taxi companies, can drop people off, Uber has so far balked at having a third party verify its airport operations, which would include monitoring pick-up and drop-off operations.
