NY AG - If The IRS Calls Wanting Money Odds Are It's Phony

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is issuing a consumer alert regarding tax season scams.

Scammers are getting pretty sophisticated when trying to make you believe they're from the IRS.

The Attorney General says if you own money to the IRS you will receive a legitimate notice in writing.

Fraudsters frequently pose as government officials even going so far as to spoof your caller ID to make it appear that the IRS is actually calling you.

The AG says you should never pay over the phone, no matter how persuasive the caller is.
