Schumer Blames FAA on Airline Safety After Southwest Flight

Southwest Airlines

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says the FAA's enforcement of airline safety is seriously lacking.

He's calling for more aircraft maintenance inspections.

Schumer says since 2014 the number of FAA safety enforcement actions have been dropping.

He's calling on the FAA to take a more proactive role in ensuring the safety of the skies.

Meanwhile, Southwest is cancelling over 40 flights Monday.

This will allow the company to inspect engine fan blades.

The move comes after a deadly incident last week when a woman was partially sucked out of plane window when an engine exploded on a flight.

It does not appear that any Albany departures or arrivals are involved in the inspection.
