Rensselaer Fire Damages or Destroys Apartment Buildings

There was a huge late night fire in Rensselaer.

As many as five buildings in the 1400 of First Street were destroyed or damaged Tuesday night.

The buildings are all double unit apartments.

Fire officials say as many as 100 firefighters were on the scene.

When they arrived, the fire was in the attic of one of the buildings, but spread very rapidly.

Everyone got out OK.

The Red Cross is assisting those who were left homeless by the fire.

Reports indicate two firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

There is no word yet on a cause.
