City of Albany Agrees to Settle With Family of Dontay Ivy

Dontay Ivy

The City of Albany is looking to settle with the family of a man who died in police custody for $625,000.

Dontay Ivy was killed after a confrontation with police in 2015 in which he was Tasered, chased, and tackled while walking down an Arbor Hill street.

His death was ruled a homicide but a grand jury didn't indict any of the officers involved.

Ivy's family filed a $20 million wrongful-death lawsuit.

Mayor Kathy Sheehan now says the city has agreed to the resolution, and plans to borrow the funds to finalize the settlement.
