A state of emergency is in effect in four Hudson Valley counties where thousands are still in the dark Wednesday morning.
Governor Cuomo made the call for Putnam, Sullivan, Orange and Dutchess Counties following Tuesday night's violent spring storm that toppled trees and power lines and killed an eleven year old Newburgh girl.
Cuomo is deploying 125 New York National Guard troops to help with recovery efforts, including cleanup and directing traffic.
The girl was killed when a tree fell on her mother's car.
Firefighters were unable to get her out in time.
