Albany Greek Festival Expected to Draw Thousands

Loukoumades

St. Sophia Church in Albany is hosting its annual Greek Festival through Sunday.

Church members have been busy baking some 20,000 pieces of pastry to go along with other traditional Greek foods and beverages that will be for sale. In addition to the food, there will be several dozen children performing various dances.

"Our young adults start dancing from 8 years old all the way up to high school," the church's marketing director Maria Neal said. "We have separate groups and it's always wonderful to see the traditional Greek dances they perform and they all have different costumes that they wear from the different parts of Greece."

Admission is $3 and kids under 12 get in for free. Shuttle bus service is available from the Center for Disability Services on South Manning Blvd.

The weather should not be an issue because all of the attractions are held either under a roof or tent.
