Man Killed After Being Hit by a Train in Castleton

Amtrak Accodent

An as yet unidentified man is dead after being hit by a train in Castleton.

Police say the man was crossing the tracks at Scott Avenue Thursday night when he was struck by an Amtrak train bound for Rensselaer.

Schodack police Chief Joseph Belardo says pedestrians often cross that part of the tracks to fish.

Belardo says the investigation is still in its initial stages, but he says at this point, this appears to have simply been a tragic accident.

The train was held for about three hours, and then continued north to the Rensselaer station.
